Fostering cats, kittens, dogs and puppies for Newberry County Animal Shelter is a lifesaving and fulfilling experience. Volunteer applications are available at the shelter located at 240 Public Works Drive, Newberry, SC. Fosters save lives by providing short term homes for those at risk or waiting for rescue transport.

There are three types of fosters:
(1)
Medical Fosters take care of animals who are being treated for illness or injury or pregnant mothers and/or their puppies.
(2) Rescue Fosters house pets that have been pulled by the shelter’s rescue partners while waiting on transport to the rescue.
(3) Space Fosters house pets to open kennel space and/or to provide a break for those pets who have been at the shelter for a long time.

The time commitment varies from a few days to several weeks. Shelter Volunteer Network will pay for necessary supplies for fosters and provide mentors to guide new fosters.
